How To Change Your Identity ► Explained With Dark Souls
Have you ever struggled with something for hours, days, maybe even months, and then the second time you try it, you do it instantly? Like you spent forever trying to beat a boss the first time, but on the second playthrough, you do it first try. People might say it’s just experience. Now, you’re experienced, so you know how to do it properly the second time. This could be true, but I think there’s more going on here. It has to do with identity, and I
Want to explain it through the game Dark Souls, because think about it. when you haven’t beaten a boss in Dark Souls yet. For me, it’s like I can’t even imagine what it’ll be like to get past a really hard boss. Like, it’s so tough. I think maybe this is where I’ll have to stop playing. Maybe I won’t get past it this time. But then I beat it and then all of a sudden it’s like, yeah, sure, I can
Beat him. He’s easy. Like, for some reason, the Nameless King from Dark Souls II, I got stuck on him for actually like 2 days, but then I beat him. And then on the next playthrough, it was like so easy. I was like, actually, what the heck is going on? You were not this easy before. It has to do with that shift in belief in your own identity. Before you were someone who couldn’t beat the hard boss
Yet, but then you eventually did it and then you became someone who beats that hard boss. And so the second time you do it, your brain is not stressing you out or holding you back or telling you you can’t do it. You’re just doing it because you’ve already done it before regardless of how much time has passed. Another weird example I thought of is like people swearing swear words. You know, I feel like me personally, I’m
Someone who swears now, but like other people I know, it sounds like they’re just swearing for the first time in life when they do it. It’s like you get accustomed to doing it. It becomes part of your identity. If it’s not part of your identity that you’re someone who swears, it sounds like it’s your first time in life ever saying a bad word. I think that people with weak self-image or self-belief sabotage themselves. They believe success in what they want is
Impossible. They think others who achieve success must be scammers or lucky or naturally gifted and that’s why they can. They even dismiss positive examples of success stories because it just makes them uncomfortable to think that they could actually achieve great things if they tried. It’s even reflected when they try to say a swear word like It sounds awkward because they don’t actually believe they are someone who swears. You get me? People with a strong self-image act
Differently. They see themselves as capable, competent, and worthy of success. They naturally take action without overthinking. Their confidence comes from how they imagine themselves, not from current circumstances. If we think about it like this, even thinking back to Dark Souls, how it becomes stupidly easier the second time around. It’s like if you change how you see yourself, then your actions follow. So, all right. Thanks a lot. Yeah, now I can play Dark Souls easier. Thanks, man.
Wow, so helpful. No. Now I want to show you how you can apply this into your real life so that real life can feel as easy as that second playthrough in Dark Souls. The way you visualize things in your brain shapes your identity. Your brain responds to vivid mental images as if they are real. So if you imagine yourself as someone confident and someone who can talk to any girl he wants to, your brain will start to
Genuinely believe that. And so your actions will attempt to do these things more and more. Just validating more that you are someone who can do these things. Imagining success helps you behave like the person who actually achieves it. Visualizing a goal makes your actions align with that identity. This is actually the scientific idea of self-efficacy. And I know maybe you think it’s cringey, right? Like, oh well, I don’t want to be that guy who like wakes up and in the morning he
Looks at himself in the mirror and is like, you’re beautiful. You’re amazing. You can do it. I don’t want to be like that. Like that’s stupid, right? We don’t have to be doing that kind of stuff, okay? But I’m just saying that like if you believe it in your brain, then you actually start walking and talking differently and doing things that before you couldn’t even imagine yourself doing, but now you believe you can do it, so you do it. You start doing
Things that you thought you could never do. You actually become more talkative and social like I did because you really believe that yeah, I actually I am a social guy and I genuinely like talking to people and learning about them. It’s easy to talk to people. That’s how I was too. I never thought I could be as social as I am. I mean, look at me. My face is on YouTube now. Like, people can see me and judge me, and I don’t care as
Much anymore. They just say I look like Brian Moser from Dexter, but just in person, too. Like, I started talking way more than I ever did in high school or before that. Now, somehow, the shy kid I always thought I was and I thought I would always be was technically a YouTuber, and he talks to everyone without so much stress, even girls. If your identity is I’m not good enough, your behavior reflects that. Identity drives behavior more than motivation
Does. Upgrading your identity leads to upgraded actions. I know it’s funny, right? Like the idea of this video is kind of just like if you believe in yourself, then you can do it. And I know that’s like stupid, but it’s actually true. It’s actually genuinely true. If you try it out, you’ll see that I’m telling you the truth. It’s cheesy, but it’s true. You can intentionally improve your self-image through visualisations and reminders. For visualization, picture yourself successfully doing the
Thing you want. Like you haven’t beaten the boss yet in Dark Souls, but you know you will. So like the success is already yours. So basically you already beat him. Imagine even though you haven’t beat him yet, you already beat him and play the game thinking like that and then translate that same thought into real life in everything you do. Imagine the scenario in detail like how confident you are and the environment, how it looks and also the outcome. What
Is the outcome you want and imagine yourself doing it in your head. This helps your body and mind act with certainty. For reminders, track your wins, whether they’re big or small and like celebrate them a little because you did a good job. When you talk to someone new or like do something a little out of your comfort zone that your past self would have never had the balls to do, be proud of yourself like actually I did
That. Wow. Revisit past successes to reinforce the identity of a capable person. Seeing past victories strengthens present confidence. Strong self-image is built slowly through the right actions. You know that you’re a capable person and you can handle things. If you’re watching this video, you’ve probably played Dark Souls, which means you’re capable of doing hard things. Dark Souls is famously known for being hard, if not the hardest. You can handle talking to new people or doing things you’ve never done before. You’re
Capable of leaving your comfort zone for real. Small, consistent improvements shape identity over time. Confidence builds from experience, not delusion. Self-image gradually becomes aligned with your desired future. Success in any area starts internally. It doesn’t matter if it’s the gym or relationships or money or social skills. If you don’t think you can do it, then you’re already quitting before you even gave yourself the chance to try. So, don’t count yourself out so soon. believe that you
Can do it and then go try it out. It might not be as bad as you think it’ll be and you’ll be closer to that future self that you always wanted to be like a hero. Then you can live your life as if this is like your second time living. You’ve already done everything already and this is just you’re playing for fun. Now, I hope this video helps.
