Self Loathing Man of Inaction ► Explained With Dark Souls

Have you ever said to yourself, “I’ll do it tomorrow. This is the day. I’m going to turn things around. Just stop giving me advice, okay? I’m trying. >> I can’t take this no more, man.” >> You’re the defeist who can’t quite give up. You fail at failing. You know deep down that you should be doing better to yourself. You don’t want to be in this spot in your life anymore. You want better, but sometimes it feels like it’s

Already too far gone, and you keep thinking to yourself more and more that your situation in life just can’t be fixed. I used to be in this situation too. Actually, sometimes I am still in this situation. I still get these feelings of like self-loathing and overwhelm. But then I played the game Dark Souls and it made me realize something. If you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you. Let me explain. In Dark Souls, there are

Hollows. Hollows look like this. When you go hollow, it means that you’ve lost your identity or purpose. To go hollow is to forget who you are or why you’re even doing what you’re doing. So, anytime you see one of these guys in the game, the reason they ended up the way they did is because they lose their purpose. Well, how does someone lose their purpose? Maybe some big life changes just happen. You lose someone important in your life. You finally

Reached a big goal you’ve been working toward for a long time. Both situations can make someone feel like, “Well, what do I do now?” Maybe it’s the busyiness in your life and it makes you feel burned out because you don’t feel like anything you’re doing is actually important to you. But what if it’s none of these things? What if you haven’t lost anyone? You haven’t made any big achievements and you don’t really feel busy, but you still feel like you don’t

Have a purpose. You feel hollow. Well, if it’s not external factors which are affecting us, then we need to start looking inward. Everything’s okay in your life, but you still feel empty for some reason. Why can’t you just enjoy life? Because if you spend all your time looking into the abyss, thinking about the bad in the world, and letting yourself form weird perspectives of how things are, and you think your life is so terrible, and you actually make

Yourself believe that nothing good can ever happen to you, then the world becomes skewed and evil and nothing good ever ends up happening to you because you only look for the bad things to confirm your philosophy and ignore any evidence that says otherwise. Think about it. If you’re like me, your parents probably bring you food to your room. That alone is already telling us that, okay, actually, I’m pretty privileged. My parents bring me food to my room. I’m living like a king,

Basically. So, how can it be that our mom brings us chicken and we have LED light strips in our room and a gaming computer or Xbox and a monitor in our room, but we talk about the abyss and we think we even know what the abyss is. we think we know philosophy and evil human nature, but we don’t even go outside. All sitting inside and ruminating does is make you stare into this imaginary abyss and it just makes you feel like

Nothing is worth doing at all and I should just stay inside and society. People are so evil. You stare so long into your imaginary abyss that it starts to look back into you and you start behaving like the world is actually the way you think it is in your head, but it’s not. So, how do we get out of this then? We’re stuck in our room and we want things to turn around, but we keep looking into our imaginary

Abyss and extinguishing any hope of things ever getting better for us. It’s a negative feedback loop of wanting but not doing. And the more we don’t do it, the more we feel bad. And the more we loathe and hate ourselves, aka look into our imaginary abyss. And then we just end up wanting to do more nothing. Something has got to change. doing the same things, living the same days over and over. It’s keeping you stuck as the

Same person who just stays inside all day and is allowed to overthink. So change that. Don’t give yourself the time to think about that kind of stuff. Or when you think, think with intention about something specific, not just random negative thoughts about yourself or the world. There are actually a few things you can do. You can get a job. I know, I’m sorry for the jump scare, but I’ve actually talked a lot more about this in depth in my

Course. You can find it with just the link in the description. But the time in my life that I’ve changed the most was when I had just graduated from high school and I got my first job. It kind of forced me to be more social, be more coordinated, even like opportunities to be more of a leader. And most importantly for this video, it gave me structure because for me, for some reason, whenever I try to do stuff for

Myself, like I try to wake up early to do something for myself, I want to work on YouTube, I want to work out, it’s like I always end up just staying in bed. But if I’m waking up early to go to work, I am definitely not going to be late for work. So having a job gave me a new environment to grow and try to live my self-improvement. And at the same time, I was putting money away. and that

Will be good for my future too. But most importantly, it forced me to be somewhere outside of my house, forced me to be social, and forced me to have a whole different life structure than I was living before. I would actually highly recommend if you’re around that age where maybe you just got out of high school or you got out just a little while ago, try to change your environment that way. Get a job. What you can also do is make a list of the

Things that you actually want to do with your time, like exercising or I actually really wanted to work on this one thing or I actually really wanted to start trying to cook more food now. Whatever it is, just make a list of those actually cool things that you actually want to do and then just do those things. the less time you’re just sitting inside and being stagnant and the more time spent doing things that you actually lowkey always wanted to do,

The better off you’ll be both in your body and your mind. And the third thing that I want to tell you is that you should definitely start gratitude journaling. And I know some people are going to be turned off that idea like, you know, oh that’s a little bit gay. Why are you going to make me do that? I don’t want to write in a diary. Just get a piece of paper or a notebook and write

Like one to three things every morning of what you’re grateful for. I am grateful for X because why? Actually, the smaller the thing that you’re grateful for is, the better. Because if you can be grateful for the smaller things in life, just automatically, of course, you’re grateful for the bigger things in life. Start recognizing all of the good things that you have in your life instead of looking into your abyss, your imaginary abyss, and focusing on

All of the bad things in your life. Thank your mom for bringing you chicken to your room. The abyss is not real. You made it up in your head. Don’t make yourself go hollow when nothing in your life is actually wrong. Hopefully now after you’ve listened to me talk, you feel motivated, right? You want to change, but then you wake up tomorrow and it’s just the same thing as always. You don’t have a job, so you’re not

Going to go there. You don’t even feel motivated to write down or even think about cool things you want to do. And if you do have something cool you want to do, surely it’s too much effort to get up and go do it, right? This is where I got to tell you that honestly, it doesn’t even matter that you watch this video or really any self-improvement video that exists on YouTube. None of that matters if you don’t start trying

To just take a little bit of action. Whenever you have something you want to work on, it just takes a little bit of courage to get up and just start doing it and then the rest of it takes care of itself. You don’t need to get up and go do everything right now as soon as you get up. You just need to get up and go and do the first thing. People who walk marathons don’t run the whole marathon

At once. They actually run the marathon one step at a time. That’s all it takes. If it’s really so hard to get started, tell yourself that you’ll just do whatever you’re going to do for 2 minutes only because you can surely handle 2 minutes of anything, right? But then after you start and you’ve been doing it for 2 minutes, you naturally want to keep going. And then that is how actual progress is made, just by getting it started, getting the

Momentum going, and then using that to your advantage and letting it take you forward. When we fight a boss in Dark Souls, we don’t beat it with just one big hit. We slowly but surely cut down the boss’s health with each and every hit. We focus on what’s the next attack that I’m going to do right now that’s going to take down the boss’s health just a little bit more until finally with enough small focused hits combined

Together. The boss’s health is done and you won. You beat the boss. Not because you did it in one big hit, but because you did a lot of small hits that compounded over time. And you didn’t see it as just you had to do all of that together. You saw it as just focusing on doing the one hit and then focusing on the one hit. All you needed to do was go from

Zero to one and then keep doing that over and over again until you won. We value comfort. Leaving the comfort zone is horrible, scary, and sometimes it hurts. Long-term gratification is becoming less of a thing these days just because everything’s so easy to get now. Saying, “I just don’t know, man.” is your brain trying to talk you out of whatever positive thing you’re trying to achieve. Saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow.” is just satisfying yourself now and telling

Yourself you’ll deal with it the next day. The next day comes around and so you just satisfy yourself again by putting it off. After doing that enough times, your brain is literally rewiring itself to adjust. With enough time of repeating this action, it actually becomes hard not to procrastinate, not to put it off. Almost like you practiced it and became good at staying in your comfort zone. But the truth is suffering is at the heart of

Almost every achievement. Anything that’s actually worth achieving in this world, it’s going to take like a little bit of pain to get there. If you want to get better, practice. If you want to stop procrastinating, practice not procrastinating. Start with small chores if you have to. After enough times being out of your comfort zone, you start to change. You start to be better. Anyway, I think I’ve said enough for now. I really hope that this video can help.

And whoever you are, whatever your situation is, you can be better. I know that you can get out of it. It’s possible. It’s totally possible. Just try your best. Okay? If you feel like you want more help, but you really do genuinely want to fix your life, and you like this format of explaining things with Dark Souls, I have a course that I’m linking in the description of this video that is exactly that. It’s a course of how to genuinely fix your

Life explained with Dark Souls. I also have a free community that you can join which is just the same thing. It’s Dark Souls and self-improvement. So, both of those links are going to be in the description. No pressure. Just if you want to check it out, you can. That’s all I have to say. Take care, guys, and don’t you dare go hollow.
