Why Dark Souls Made Real Life Feel Easy
I think at every opportunity you should take the chance and do the harder thing. That way you gain more experience and increase your baseline for capability and hard work. Because if you can do the really hard way first, then everything else feels easy by comparison. Imagine a video game, right? If you were to turn up the difficulty to the hardest difficulty and mess around on the game and and try to play the game on that difficulty first and actually
Make some progress, you know, like learn to adapt to the hardest difficulty and then later you turn down that difficulty to like medium difficulty or something like that. That medium difficulty would be way easier, right? That would be so much easier if it’s really hard in the beginning, but you kind of learn to deal with that level of hard. Sorry. If it’s really hard in the beginning, but you learn to deal with that level of difficulty, and then it gets easier
After some time, then you get used to the struggle, and now you’re prepared for anything when it’s just normal difficulty. The game Dark Souls doesn’t really teach you how to play the game. It doesn’t even have an option to change the difficulty. It just throws you in the fire like, “All right, good luck. See you after school.” At first, everything kills you and you kind of just suck for a while. But if you stick with it, you don’t just
Beat the game, you actually get good at the game. And if you’re like into Dark Souls or anything like that, you know that it’s a common thing for people to say, “Get good. Get good.” Because it’s one thing to just beat the bosses and cheese the bosses and what’s the easiest way to to get rid of this guy, but it’s another thing to actually learn the moves and get good and actually be able to tell when he’s going to do a move,
How to counter the move. You become someone who’s built for pressure. And I think this applies to real life, too. In Dark Souls, the game is like really tough and it teaches you how to focus and lock in and not buckle under pressure. And if you get good at doing that, then it’s like a lot of like I’ll say most other games become kind of easy and actually Dark Souls becomes easy because you just did the hardest
Thing. So, how could everything else not be easier by comparison? Sometimes you got to run before you can walk. I’m in college right now and my third semester made me able to handle any workload. There was so much to do and not really enough time to do it all. And so I needed to make every day about studying. I would wake up early and go to sleep late just to do school work. I really needed to focus. And more importantly, I
Think I needed to not give up on the work because I knew that if I didn’t even try, then I would surely fail. If I could at least give everything that I had to this course, to this semester 3, no matter how big the task seemed to be, I wanted to at least try to do it, you know, so that instead of it being a sure failure because I didn’t even try. There was at least a a chance that I would be
All right in the end. And in the end, I was all right. And actually, I did pretty good. I got pretty good marks on all my stuff. So, don’t mean to brag, but what I want to say with the story is now that I’ve done that third semester, I think I can handle anything. If I can handle that full course load and everything building up on me, I can surely handle things when they’re going at like a moderate moderate pace, right?
And yeah, I I think I’ve seen the difference in myself now after that third semester where I’m more quick, efficient with my work now and and I’m more dedicated when I’m actually doing my work. All because of that third semester. It really set a fire under my ass. All right, another story is at my job right now, my manager is pretty tough. She likes to assign a lot of tasks to people. Um, more than they’re capable
Of, I think, and she likes to give us less hours to do all of these tasks. Like really, like what she’s asking for some days is like physically impossible. Okay. But I think that lately the days that I’ve had to work with her have made me more, you know, it’s more to do and and less manageable. But the more that I try to get it all done, even though it’s impossible, like I’ve been getting better at delegating my my tasks,
Delegating my time, you know, getting faster at each and every little thing so that I can accommodate for her extra business. You know, I think that me trying to accommodate for her extra tasks have made me able to handle any workload. So that when it’s just a normal day, now it’s like, oh, this is easy now. Like I’m actually like I’m not trying to brag, but like I’m actually pretty quick now. I got another story. My girl has just started a new job and
Right at the beginning of when she started, she got so much responsibility just right off the bat. And I don’t know why they did that to her. They because they’re short staffed and and they don’t have um good workers there or something, but she was given so much responsibility straight away. She started off with so much work and a lot going on, but now things have started to kind of tone down and they’ve hired more people, whatever.
They’ve given her less hours. And now when she works there, it’s like, “Oh, today was actually really easy because now all of a sudden after that hard initial period, she’s like assimilated into it now. And now she knows everything like the back of her hand. So now everything is easy. Especially when it’s just a normal workday. Now everything is like, “Oh, done.” If you can do the really hard way first, everything else is easier by comparison. And if I could do it and my
Girl could do it, then I know that you can do it, too. Cuz trust me, like honestly, me and her, like hopefully she doesn’t watch this, but me and her are like a couple of big babies, like adult babies. So, I’m telling you, if we can handle it, then you can handle it, too. Don’t be afraid of the harder version of something. I think this is also why Hamza, the YouTuber, suggests us that we eat the frog first thing in the morning
So that the hardest part is out of the way first thing and everything else is easier by comparison. All right, imagine this scenario, right? You’re sitting at the dinner table and you have two things in front of you. One thing is your favorite favorite food, whatever. It can be um like an actual meal or it can be like a dessert or something. Whatever it is for me, I guess a nice juicy steak. Okay. Or maybe some ice cream. I don’t know. So, we got
A steak here. But here we have a frog. Okay. And you have to eat both of them. But it doesn’t matter which order you eat them in. If you eat your nice juicy steak first or whatever the ice cream, if you have your dessert first, then the whole time you’re eating the dessert, it’s like, oh man, like you you’re almost dreading what’s coming next. You can’t even enjoy the ice cream because you
Know that you’re gonna have to do this still, right? So, I think what Hamza suggests by eating the frog is like if you have this first, yeah, it’s gross, but it’s out of the way. And then you have your ice cream and you can actually enjoy your ice cream, right? If you have your ice cream first, not not only is it like I’m putting this off so I can’t enjoy this properly, but when you do eat
It, it’s like it’s like it leaves an even more um it leaves an even more bitter taste in your mouth because you already tasted the sweetness of the ice cream and now it’s like ruined by the frog. You know, if you do the reverse order, then it’s like kind of meh, but you were hungry. So, it was like, okay, I ate that first, and then you get the ice cream, and then you get to enjoy the
Ice cream. That’s why Hamza suggests that we eat the frog first thing in the morning, doing the hardest piece of work that we don’t want to do first thing in the morning, so that the rest of the day is easy. I think that if you seek discomfort intentionally and do things that are a bit out of reach for you and maybe a bit tough for you, these things stretch your ability and make you a more capable
Human being. If you can train yourself to do the hard way first, like taking a full course load or playing the hardest difficulty on a video game or starting a new workout regimen that’s pretty tough on you or just setting goals that are reasonably unreasonable for yourself, then I think you’ll become better at those things quicker than others. And then after that initial period of more difficulty, as you start to make it easier on yourself slightly, whether
It’s because you’ve been doing it for a while or because actually it’s becoming easier now for you, you can become a force to be reckoned with. No matter what it is you want to do, hard times create strong men. Easy times don’t create strong men. And so if times are easy but you still want to be strong then you have to turn up the difficulty for yourself. You need to make it hard for yourself. I think at
Any opportunity that you have you should choose to do the harder thing. That way you gain more experience and increase your baseline for capability and hard work. And remember that it’s training you. All right? So, don’t walk out of the gym when you get sore. That’s everything for today. I’ll talk to you guys later.
