Why Do I Feel Hollow? ► Explained With Dark Souls
Let’s be honest. If Dark Souls was real, you wouldn’t be the hero of the story. You’d probably be one of the hollowos, the ones that don’t even attack you, that just stand there and cry. I know you want to think you’re the chosen undead, but you’re probably just one of those guys the actual hero kills for fun. I’m not saying this to be a prick. Actually, look at your day-to-day life and habits and then tell me I’m wrong. I
Used to be the same way, too. Actually, some days I still am like that, living life pretty much as a hollow. But the game Dark Souls taught me more than just that I am like the Hollows. It also taught me how to stop being hollow and how to come back even when everything seems lost. There’s something about the Hollows that always stuck with me. You would think they’re just hollow and have nothing inside them. No feelings,
Nothing. Just basically zombies. But I was surprised to see that sometimes they kind of spaz out. They look like how a baby looks when it has a meltdown. They look like agitated. They kind of look like me when I get really frustrated and I just want to like flex all my muscles and like scream into my pillow and like roll around. Feels like that. It looks like they’re feeling the same way as me when I do that. Like super annoyed and
Just pissed off. I think that little detail in their animation actually says a lot about maybe their mental headsp space. Because when I do that move, I feel like everything is going wrong and it’s like too much and I just want it to stop. Like I’m annoyed. I’m so annoyed. I’m annoyed at my current situation in my life. I feel trapped. And maybe it is annoying. Maybe your life right now actually deserves a reaction like that,
Like spazzing out. But Dark Souls taught me that you can actually do something about it. I don’t know if being hollow equals depression. I don’t know if depression is really a thing, like if it’s actually a chemical imbalance in your brain or if it’s something else. But I choose to believe that hollowess can fade. that if you live with a sense of purpose, if you make yourself be social, even if it’s uncomfortable, if you give your body the kinds of things
That make it feel good, like enough sleep and good, healthy, energizing food, then you can overcome your hollowess or your depression. I believe if you do good habits, not self-improvement habits, but just things that make you happy and that are purposeful to you, I think the hollowess subsides and you become more like the hero of the story instead of just one of the hollowos you see on the side. So, the advice and the actionable step I
Want to give you in this video is do what makes you feel alive. Not the cheap dopamine like drugs or alcohol or scrolling. And don’t be doing anything stupid either like going into public bathrooms and rubbing your poop all over the walls because it makes you feel alive. This thing that makes you feel alive, it can’t be something that’s like instantly gratifying. Because the people who try to drown out their negative thoughts in their mind with just
Pleasure, just instant pleasure, they end up digging themselves into a deeper hole than they were in the in the first place. It’s more like a band-aid when you actually needed to go into surgery. The thing that makes you feel alive needs to be something intrinsic inside of you, something that makes you happy just by doing it. If you search on YouTube, Dark Souls saved me, a lot of people talk about Dark Souls as their kind of reintroduction back into the
World. They say it gives them a feeling that they can accomplish something and that even when the world looks awful and grim, our character can still persevere. It gave them a sense of hope and progression and confidence in their own abilities to beat hard things. So for you, I want you to think to yourself, like think it in your brain or even write it down somewhere. What is it that you actually want to do? Like the what
Do you want to do just to do it? No external reward, no no dopamine involved. Just you want to do it because you like doing it. This might even be the game Dark Souls for you right now. Maybe you can’t really think about like what is my life’s purpose? You know, you think I’m asking you what is your life’s purpose? But I’m just asking you right now in this moment, what do you want to do just to do it? I want you to
Start thinking in the frame of mind of like what do I actually want to do versus what am I doing just because external factors like you know my parents or circumstances guided me to that you know am I in this job just because I was looking for a job and then I found a job and now I’m miserable. Was I searching for this job specifically? Was I searching for this thing specifically or was it just given to me
And now I’m kind of stuck with it for now? What do you actually want to do versus what are you doing? I think that’s why the hollows look so annoyed in Dark Souls sometimes. It looks like how I look when I’m in a stupid position in life and I didn’t want to be here, but I am. And I don’t even really know how I got here. I don’t remember wanting this. It’s almost like, you know, when
Your parents piss you off and then you go to your room and then do like the silent scream and convulse your body behind the door. But then what do you actually do with your time? For me, I enjoy making videos and trying to make them better with every upload. I do enjoy working out both because I like the way it makes me look after and it makes me feel better mentally. I enjoy playing Dark Souls even though I’ve
Already beat the game a few times now. I also enjoy talking with my friends and my girl and laughing with them. Those things remind me that I’m still human and that doing things that should make me feel good actually do make me feel good. Think about your own version of that. Do you have things that make you feel alive? If so, go and do them and make progress in those things because that’s how you actually become the hero
Of the story instead of being someone who really wants to be the hero but definitely isn’t. You can be the hero. upgrade your social skills by talking to more people and become the version of yourself that you imagine in the fake scenarios in your head. You can actually be that person. You can actually be better than that version of you. You can be better than what you imagine the best version of you is, but you just need to
Start taking action and doing things you enjoy doing and upgrading yourself in every way you can. That’s how you become the hero instead of someone who just wants to be one. Upgrade your life so that it doesn’t put you into a position that you get annoyed at. Build a better life for yourself so that even when times get tough and complicated and frustrating, you’re happy to try to resolve it instead of annoyed because you actually care about the things in
Your life because you chose to have them in your life, not anybody else. Find the things in your life worth suffering for. Because at one job, you’ll feel like a slave, but at another job, you might be doing the same amount of work, but you actually feel like you’re doing something important. So, you don’t feel like a slave. You feel purposeful. Same effort but different meaning. That’s how you can reverse hollowing in real life. You don’t wait for someone else to come
Save you or keep imagining in your brain that you’re the hero. Cuz imagining it is not going to do anything. You become the hero by doing what the hero would do. I hope this video helps.
