Why Does Music Make You Feel Sick ► Explained With Dark Souls
Music is the muse that makes you sick. Everyone loves music. People defend music like it’s sacred. And like I like it too, but we’re overdoing it a little bit. We don’t need it to the extent that we have it available to us. People got Spotify playlists on repeat, 3minute dopamine hits over and over. It’s just an escape now. It’s how people avoid taking an honest look at themselves. Instead of asking the real questions to yourself, like, why am I so unhappy with
My life? You just hit play on the next song and drown it out. Noise on top of noise until you never feel the weight of your own thoughts. It’s actually an addiction. And Dark Souls shows us how it works. In Dark Souls, going hollow means losing your humanity, your identity, your purpose. That’s what music does when you lean on it too much. You slowly hollow out. You let it decide your mood, your focus, even your confidence. If you never actually
Address yourself because you’re listening to the mood of the song instead of yourself, then your actual problems get amplified and yet drowned out at the same time. The music speaks to you, right? And it gives you comfort because it’s relatable, but it doesn’t let you actually grow and fix the problem. It keeps you in that frame of mind like ruminating in in the sadness or the anger or whatever. I know because I tried the opposite. I heard it in a
Video like a couple years ago and so I just tried to not listen to music for a few days and it made my life better and now I don’t listen to music when I’m working out or on the train or anywhere when I’m outside the house. I know for sure there is a difference in how you feel because now I bought a new pair of earbuds and I’ve been listening to music again when I’m out and I’m working out
And it feels like uh and it’s like making me nauseous to listen to so much music over and over song after song. I bought those new earbuds like a couple months ago and now I’ve lost them somewhere and now I’ve been forced to not listen to music everywhere I go like I have been doing lately and I’m actually grateful for this. I don’t even want to find them. Life is better without the constant stimulation. It’s for real like a drug and nobody even
Acknowledges it or talks about it. Music has a crazy effect on mood for real. And once you stop listening to it, it’s like you can hear your own thoughts actually. It’s crazy. You can hear the world. You’re present. Sadness isn’t so sad. Anger isn’t so angry. Music feeds emotions and amplifies them. Every depressed person I know loves music to death. They defend it and they spend all their time listening to it because it’s a way that you can ruminate. When you
Listen to music, your emotions are enlarged. And especially for those people feeling depressed or sad, they’re already caught in a loop of sadness. They don’t think of anything other than sad thoughts. They put in their AirPods and they listen to more sad stuff. It makes them more sad. They don’t even give themselves the chance to not be sad and address those root problems. Music causes rumination and an intensification of those emotions. And when you finally do hear a nice song after a while of not
Hearing any music, it’s actually like really nice. But we were not meant to listen to this much music over and over again. It’s actually a drug and nobody even acknowledges it or notices it. In the filth, it shall be found. You got to stop drowning in the music and and listen to your own thoughts, your real thoughts, so you can see why you’re unhappy or sad or or whatever it is, so that you can actually fix it. Growth
Happens when you stop running from that discomfort and just sit in it for a second. The problem with listening to music so much is that it makes you emotional. And I don’t mean to say that being emotional, especially as a guy, it’s not a bad thing to be emotional. I don’t think that we should bottle up our feelings. I’m not like an advocate of that stuff, okay? But I think, and especially for guys, it’s not a good
Thing to be emotional and let flimsy emotions guide your life. Guys won’t approach a girl until they feel like they’re good enough, so they’ll turn on a song to try to get in the mood. Guys won’t do a PR in the gym or go to the gym before they feel like it. We’re so dependent on feeling and emotion, but that’s not how we’re made, man. We’re stronger than that. We’re better than the emotion. And so a lot of guys are
Relying on that now. We don’t do the work. We don’t study until we turn that music on. We can’t live without that crutch in our life. If we don’t have our music playing or even our YouTube video playing for us, then we can’t make the trip to the store to get food. We can’t even do our laundry without music anymore. Think about how many opportunities you already missed because you had AirPods in. Imagine if in Dark
Souls, the main character like us, imagine he was sitting in the cell locked in there, but he had his earbuds in so he didn’t notice when Oscar dropped the key down so that we can unlock the door. Also, have you ever tried playing Dark Souls with like music also playing? It’s like I can’t I can’t have that on. I can’t even hear the stuff going on in the game anymore. And like you need to hear those cues. How am
I going to know if an enemy is sneaking up on me or not or the boss is going to make a move if I can’t hear it? I need to hear those audio cues, but I can’t if I have Cardi B playing in my ear or something like that. How many enemies are going to sneak up on you in Dark Souls if you can’t hear them coming cuz you got music playing? Think in real life, too. Like imagine you’re riding
The train and then you have your earbuds in and then like some homeless guy is going to like he’s starting to walk up to you, but you don’t realize that he’s like yelling at you. Like he’s yelling at you, but you don’t hear it coming. You don’t hear that he’s about to like smack the out of you, but you don’t know because you’re listening to whatever you got in your ear. In the filth, it shall be found. The thing
You’re running from, the silence you don’t want. That’s exactly where your answer is. Stop drowning in playlists. Sit in the quiet. Let your real thoughts come up. That’s the only way you’ll see why you’re unhappy and actually be able to fix it. Take off the headphones. Stop making music the crutch that you lean on before doing literally anything. You don’t need to set up a playlist before you go for a walk or go to the gym or
Before you talk to a girl. You don’t need a prerequisite. You don’t need to have conditions that you need in order to do anything. You can just do anything right now. It’s actually frying your brain, man. People used to go to the opera house or go to a concert where they’re actually playing a beautiful piano or you’d have to learn how to sing or how to play a guitar. And that was all the music you would have access to.
It would bring you to tears and you’d feel something like you’d have a core memory burn into you. Now it’s nothing. Just I can take this with me and I have Spotify and this constant influx of just the best music. But you got to pay attention. You can’t let this new media access prevent you from living life the way it’s supposed to be lived. You can’t let it distract you and make you emotional and unable to do things you
Want to do in this life. You got to stop listening to constant music and take the earbuds out when you go out and there’s people to talk to, opportunities to to take on. You know, when you do that, you start to feel different. You stop being dependent. You feel calm. You feel confident. You feel grounded. You’re not running from silence anymore. You’re listening to yourself and feeling your real emotions and addressing the root cause of things. You’re not ruminating
In your anger or sadness like caught in a constant loop. You stop hollowing and you actually reclaim your humanity. So try it just one day at school without headphones. One day I work without headphones. Notice your environment. Notice the opportunities and just listen to the world. Try not to listen to music every waking hour of the day and see how it makes you feel better cuz it will. If you like Dark Souls lore and you like
