Why You Can’t Be Like Everyone Else ► Explained With Dark Souls

Why does it feel like everyone else knows how to be normal except you? I’m always worried about how I look or the things I’m saying or if I should have my hands in my pockets right now. And eventually, I always circle back to the same question. Why can’t I just be normal? I just wish I could be more like everyone else. But when we say we want to be normal, what do we actually mean by that? We don’t mean average. We mean

We don’t want to stand out in the wrong way. But at the same time, don’t you want to stand out? Don’t we want to make a name for ourselves and become someone great, maybe even famous? Is it even possible to have both at the same time? The desire to be great and the desire to just be normal. I used to feel like there was something wrong with me. Whatever it is I’m feeling, it feels like nobody else has it. But then I

Played this game called Dark Souls and it made me realize something. Even if you try your absolute hardest to be normal, you never will be. In Dark Souls, there are multiple endings. In one ending, you can choose to keep the age of fire going by letting yourself on fire to rekindle the first flame. Or you can go with the second ending and become the dark lord by walking away from the first flame and let the world fade into

Darkness, beginning a new age without fire. What would you say is the normal ending for the game? Maybe you’d say it’s continuing the age of fire because that’s the canon ending in the story of the game. But other than that, normal according to who? Normal to Gwyn and all the people who follow him, but Gwyn is kind of the bad guy, isn’t he? So why would we do the thing that he wants to do? That’s not normal. That’s a lust for

Power. So then that means the more normal thing to do would be to not continue the age of fire, right? Well, not really. The whole kingdom of Lordran, where everything takes place in Dark Souls, is well aware of how things are in the world and are operating now under the instructions of Gwyn. Everyone is expecting nothing to change and to continue the age of fire. So it’s not exactly normal to stop that and change it into something totally different, is

It? So it would seem that there’s not really a clear answer for what the normal thing to do is. Except for one other option. What if you choose to do nothing at all? Isn’t that the most normal thing you could do? Now you’re not letting anybody down, you’re just letting the world be as it should. No standing out, no awkwardness, no victory, and no defeat. But this is actually not the normal thing to do either. Think about the Crestfallen

Warrior. His story is that he’s also here to link the first flame, but he gave up on that quest and now just sits in the safe area, Firelink Shrine. It does kind of seem like this is the most neutral and normal thing you could do that would not disappoint anyone, but it’s still not normal. Because look what happened to the Crestfallen Warrior. He became an example. He decided to give up on his initial purpose. He tried to

Convince himself that it wasn’t even all that important to him. He thought he could just remain as a guide for others forever. Just there subtly, not really in anybody’s way. But then he turned hollow. In the end, he did become an obstacle to us because we had to fight him. And he also became proof that not making a decision is still a big decision. When you break it all down, there is no right answer. No matter

Which path you choose, someone will be unhappy, someone will get hurt, and your actions will affect others in some way. There is no normal option. If you link the flame, people will hate you. But if you don’t, people will still hate you. And even if you do neither of those things, then people will still remember you as the one who went hollow from choosing to do nothing and you’ll still be judged and remembered and even hated

For your decision. Dark Souls teaches us that normal doesn’t exist. There are only different paths and the only thing you can really do is try to choose the best path for yourself. And you might think like, but I see all these people at my school or at work or my family or whatever and I feel like they’re all normal. They don’t have the same problems as me. Why can’t I just fit in with them? You see them as

Normal, but do they see themselves as normal? Think about Gwyn in Dark Souls. He established himself as basically the king and made everyone else in the land live according to how he wanted to live. He set the way everything is. Do you think he thinks that he’s normal? Everyone else might think it’s normal that he’s the king and we should all listen to him and trust him. But I think that in real life, if any one of us

Watching this video became like a king, we would probably have like imposter syndrome, right? We would think like, I can’t handle this. I’m not fit to be a king. Someone else should take my place. I’m not good enough. And I think this might be the core issue for why we feel like we just want to be normal. Imposter syndrome. You never want to stand out because if you do, you’ll be judged for it. But I’m trying

To tell you that, man, even if you do absolutely nothing, you’ll still be judged. You’re never going to be normal in the way you want to be. Even if you were actually the most normal guy ever, you would still think of yourself as not normal enough and you’d still be trying to fit in. You might even be like me, like the guy in the class who doesn’t talk to anybody and just looks like the most NPC character ever and no one is

Really even paying attention to you at all. You are normal, but you’re still overthinking like crazy in your head hoping that you’re not standing out too much by breathing too loud or your hair looks bad today or anything stupid like that. I’m willing to bet that if you ever just looked around, there’s probably someone else that’s going through the exact same thing as you, just wanting to be normal, but you don’t even realize it because he’s just a

Normal guy. And the craziest part? already be the normal person someone else is comparing themselves to. You might find comfort in knowing that people aren’t looking at you as much as you think they are. But when the day comes that you’re going to have to make a decision, will you go to university, get a job, what kind of job, girlfriend, anything? You’re going to be judged. Not in a bad way, but like in a way where

People are going to see who you really are on the inside. No matter how much you try to be normal, you’ll have to make decisions that will make you stand out to someone. So I say, stop trying to be normal. Stop this imposter syndrome. Get used to the feeling of discomfort of having your own opinions and thoughts and sharing them with the world. Get used to making decisions on your own. Make decisions you actually want to

Make. Don’t just follow what everyone else is doing because that won’t make you more normal. It just shows everyone more what kind of person you really are. One who follows or one who chooses. You’ll be judged for being a follower just as much as you’ll be judged for being a chooser. So just choose for yourself the kind of life you want to lead. Make yourself happy because you’re the most important person in your own life. There’s no such thing as normal.

Avoiding judgment is impossible. And so you might as well just choose your own path intentionally. If you like Dark Souls and self-improvement, I have a new free community that you can join. It’s just going to be the link in the description. I also have a new course that’s called how to genuinely fix your life, but explained with Dark Souls. So if that sounds interesting to you, then that’s also going to be a link in the description. No pressure for either of

Them, but just they’re there if you want to check them out, all right? I hope this video can help somebody. You take care, guys. Don’t you dare go hollow.
